In the previous series, we have discussed the beginning of idol worship in Jahiliah Arab society. However, idol worship is only one of the many deviations they do. This article will discuss various other deviations committed by the Arab Jahiliah community.
The tradition of the fate of the voting with arrows
Arabs also voted with arrows without fur. There are three sound varieties: the first written “yes” and “no”; the second of the sound of water and diyat payments; And the third wrote “from your group”, “not from your group”, and “without layers and bonds”.
The first type of drawing was used by the Arabs when they wanted to travel, get married, and such activities. The way they do it is to write down the words “yes” and “no” in arrows, then draw. If the word that comes out is “yes”, then they do it. However, if what comes out is “no”, then they postpone doing it for a year. After that, they repeat the lottery again.
The third type of sound is social, used when the Arab community ignores a person’s lineage. The rule is that they come to idols with losers who doubt, and slaughter a hundred camels, and hand it over to voting. If after being elected “from your group”, it is recognized as part of the group. If the writing that comes out is “not from your group”, then that means it is not part of the group but an alliance. If out is “without a lineage and bond”, then it is not from both groups.
Confidence in supernatural and fortune tellers
Jahiliah Arabs also believe in shaman news (pastor)predictor (Wise)and a fortune teller (mine). The shaman is a person who claims to be able to preach events in the future and claim to know the magical things. Some of them claimed to have followers from the jinn who conveyed information to them.
The fortune teller is a person who claims to know the cases with the initial signs and certain causes they use to conclude the incident based on the words of the people who ask, their actions, and the circumstances. For example, people who claim to know stolen goods, locations of theft, and lost goods.
Nujum experts are people who observe stars in the heavens and calculate their movements and their time, to find out the state of the world and events that will occur in the future through the movement. Trusting the news of the Nujum Expert is essentially a form of faith in the stars. Therefore, they used to say, “We were rained because of this and that star.”
Beliefs feel unlucky because of something
Jahiliah Arabs also have trust Tiyarahwhich is unlucky because of something. The origin is that they come to birds or deer, then make the animal surprised to fly or run. If the animal moves to the right, then they continue their intentions and consider it a good sign. If the animal moves to the left, then they discouraged the intention and considered it as a sign of bad luck. They also feel bad if there are birds or animals that cross their roads. They also feel bad for certain days, certain months, certain houses, and women.
Remaining -the teachings and innovations of Abraham deviated in worship
That’s the belief in the Arab ignorant community. However, there is still Abraham’s teachings left, that they still respect the Kaaba, do tawaf at home, speak, read, speak at Arafat and Muzdalifah, and sacrifice sacrifice.
However, they pollute the worship with various innovations (heresy) they make themselves. Here are some forms of heresy they do.
First: The Quraysh did not do the wukuf at Arafat and departed from Arafat to Mina, but they departed from Muzdalifah. In fact, the applicable rules are wukuf at Arafat. They set these rules because they felt inappropriate that the residents of the land were illegitated out of the illegal land area (because the arafat was outside the illegitimate land). And also because they felt that they were high as descendants of the Prophet Ibrahim and Baitullah guard, so there was no need for wukuf at Arafat. Related to their actions, Allah Ta’ala said,
Then, they will be exhausted from people from people
“Then you leave from where many people depart (ie from Arafat).” (Surah Al-Baqarah: 199)
Second: They also set rules for themselves that they should not wrap Aqiith (a type of cheese) and cooking Samin It’s time to leave. They also cannot enter the feathers and can only take shelter on the skin during ihram.
Third: People from outside illegal land are not permitted to bring food from outside illegal land when pilgrimage or umrah. In addition, the Quraish tribes also set the rule that people from outside regions must wear the owner’s clothes. If people don’t find it, then the congregation is naked; While the female congregation is in a loose clothing that tore, says,
Today looks a few or all … and what appears from him
“On this day it appears in part or my whole body, and what I don’t see me is not true (to be seen).”
This poem shows that actually women are not willing to only wear improvised clothes. However, they were forced to do it because of the rules made up by the Quraysh.
Allah Ta’ala lower His word as a form of alignment of the practice,
He built, I will bring your compliance to every mosque
“Dear grandchild, Adam! Wear your good clothes every (enter) the mosque.” (Surah Al-A’raf: 31)
Fourth: If someone from abroad is illegal but wants to wear the clothes he brings from the original area if his dignity occurs, then after tawaf he must take off clothes and no one can use clothes.
Fifth: When Arabs who do not know are at the end of the day, they do not enter their house through the door, but they make a hole behind the house to enter and leave their house.
This is the religion and belief of the majority of Arabs before the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. After knowing a variety of deviations in the beliefs of Jahiliah Arabs, now is the time to trace how external influences begin to enter the Arabian peninsula through Samawi religions such as Jews and Christians.
