Proof of God’s name “Al-Qarib” And “Al-Mujiib”
Allah combines these two names in His words,
And to Thamud, their brother Salih, he said, “O my people, worship God. You have no god but Him. He has produced you from the earth.” And He made you stay there, so ask Him for forgiveness, then repent to Him. Verily, my Lord is near and recompenses.
“And to the people of Thamud (We sent) his brother, Salih. He said, ‘O my people! Worship Allah, there is no true worship for you except Him. (QS. Hud: 61)
NO al-Mujiib is not mentioned anywhere else in the Qur’an apart from this verse, while the name al-Qarib mentioned in two other verses, namely:
the word of God Exalted,
And when My servants ask you about Me, I am near. I answered the applicant’s call when he called. So let them respond to Me and have faith in Me, so that they may guide them
“And when My servants ask you about Me, then (answer) indeed I am near. I will answer the prayers of those who pray to Me. So let them carry out My (orders) and believe in Me, so that they may be guided.” (QS. Al-Baqarah: 186)
His words,
Say, “If I go astray, then I go astray only to myself, and if I receive guidance, then by what He has revealed to my Lord. Indeed, He is All-Hearing, Near.”
“Say, ‘If I am lost, then indeed I am lost because of myself. And if I receive guidance, then it is because of the revelation that my Lord sent down to me. Indeed, He is All-Hearing and Near.'” (QS. Saba’: 50) [1]
Meaning of God’s Name “Al-Qarib” And “Al-Mujiib”
To fully understand the meaning of God’s name, we first need to know the meaning of the word “Al-Qarib” And “Al-Mujiib” linguistically, then in context as the name of God Story.
The linguistic meaning of “Al-Qarib” And “Al-Mujiib”
Strange is sîfah deliberation (fixed property) with wazan fail (showing persistent or permanent properties). Whereas Mujib, is a noun fail (doer verb) from the verb dove (he answers)it was originally said to be obligation (answer)where letters Wow replaced with You (so it becomes Mujib). [2]
Origin of the word from Strange is Al-Qurb (proximity) which linguistically means the opposite of STUFF (Far). [3]
There are several forms of closeness:
- Proximity of place (qurb al-makān),
- Time proximity (qurb az-zaman),
- Closeness of position or status (qurb al aim). [4]
Meanwhile, the origin of the word Mujib is al-jaub (work). Ibn Faris said about the meaning of this word,
(Ayub) Ji’m, waw, and ba’ have one origin, namely the breaking up of something. It is said that the earth has completely dried up
“Letter Jim, wow, And baa forms one root word which has the basic meaning ‘to make a hole or split something’. For example: Jubtu al-arḍ jawban (I’m literally destroying the earth) meaning, ‘I have split the earth (across it)’.” [5]
Meaning “Al-Qarib” And “Al-Mujiib” in the context of God
Ibn Jarir Ath-Tabari God bless mentioned, regarding the interpretation of God’s word Story in Surah Hud verse 61,
Verily, my Lord is near and recompenses
he says,
Indeed, my Lord is close to those who worship Him sincerely, and try to repent, and pray for him when he calls on him.
“Indeed, my Lord is near to anyone who sincerely worships Him and returns to Him with hope; and He will grant his request when he prays to Him.” [6]
Sheikh Abdurrahman bin Nashir As-Si’diy said, “al-Qarib, al-Mujib” — meaning: He Story is al-Qarib (Nearest) of every creature. God’s closeness Story there are two types: (1) general closeness to all His creatures, through His knowledge, His supervision, His attention, and His view which encompasses everything; and (2) special closeness to His servants who worship Him, pray to Him, and love Him.
This is a form of closeness that cannot be reached by reason, but can be recognized through its effects—such as His tenderness towards His servants, His attention, His wisdom, and His guidance.
Among the impacts are: Allah grants the prayers of the petitioners, and accepts the repentance of the servants who return to Him.
So, God is al-Mujiib — Most Granting — both general granting for anyone who prays whenever and wherever they are, under whatever circumstances, as He has promised absolutely.
And God too al-Mujiib especially for those who answer His call and submit to His law. God too al-Mujiib for people who are in an emergency situation, who have given up hope from creatures, and then rely completely on Allah with full hope, fear and love. [7]
What is mentioned in the Qur’an and sunnah about His nearness and inclusion does not contradict His height and majesty, because there is nothing similar to Allah. Subḥānahu and Goand He is All-Hearing and All-Seeing. [8]
Consequences of the name of Allah “Al-Qarib” And “Al-Mujiib” for servants
Name assignment “Al-Qarib” And “Al-Mujiib” for God Story has many consequences, both in terms of the nature and preaching of Allah, as well as from the servant’s side. The following are some consequences from the servant’s side:
Believe that “Al-Qarib” And “Al-Mujiib” this includes Asmaul Husna
A servant should believe that Al-Gharib And Al-Mujib included in Al-Asmaul Husna (the best names of Allah), as the arguments have been stated.
Closer to God
The more perfect a Servant becomes in passing the levels ubudiyah (worship), then he will be closer to God Tax.
In the Shahihain, Prophet Peace be upon him said,
God Almighty says: Whoever draws his hand near Me; I drew near to him at an arm’s length, and whoever drew near to me at an arm’s length; I approached him slowly, and whoever came to me walked; I came to him while running
“Allah says: Whoever approaches Me by an inch, I will approach him by a cubit; (HR. Bukhari and Muslim) [9]
More and more perfect ubudiyah a person, the closer he is to God. Because indeed Allah is the Most Kind, the Most Generous, the Most Giver of goodness. He gives to His servants according to the servant’s needs and sincerity. [10]
Pray more and don’t give up
There are many hadiths in the Sunnah of the Prophet Peace be upon him which encourages to increase prayer, and explains that Allah Tabaraka waa tap He answers the prayers of those who pray and gives to those who ask Him.
It is mentioned in the hadith narrated by Ahmad, al-Bukhari in al-Adab al-Mufradal-Hakim, and others from Abu Sa’id al-Khudri Radhiyallahu ‘anhuProphet Peace be upon him said,
No Muslim prays a prayer that does not contain sin and does not break ties of friendship, but Allah grants one of three things in it, namely that his prayer be hastened, or saved for him in the afterlife, or protected from similar evils.
“It is not for a Muslim to pray a prayer that does not contain sin or sever ties of friendship, but Allah will give him one of three things: (1) His prayer will be answered immediately, (2) It will be saved for him in the afterlife, or (3) It will be protected from evil comparable to it.”
They asked, “Then shall we increase (prayer)?”
He says,
God is more than that
“Allah is more (giving).” (at-Targhib wa at-Tarhib, NO. 1633, valid) [11]
Hopefully the correct understanding of the two names of Allah (Al-Qarib And Al-Mujib) strengthens our faith in Him, encourages us to increase our prayers and worship, grows hope and fear only in Him, and keeps us away from polytheism and all forms of dependence on other than Him. Amen.
